ABOUT US
JJ Express started in 2001 when Jenny and Jack Chen started a homemade magazine to distribute in the community. Soon, the magazine started becoming something bigger. JJ Express is now the new, children's magazine for children ages 9-16 years old. It is unique because it revolves around a collection of comics/cartoons created by professionals and amateurs alike. These are supplemented by articles, activities, and stories that promote youth today to explore the possibilities in the world we live in and take responsibility for the home that we will inhabit for decades to home. In addition to our magazine, we also coordinate activities such as an ice-cream making craft at the Rockville Heritage Festival, learning how to knit at the library, book discussions, Saving the Earth programs and much more. Each of these activities is one step closer to helping us achieve our mission. This project is supported by Youth Venture, a program that provides grants to youth who are dedicated to making a difference in their community. All proceeds go into further efforts to achieving our mission. Please see our Project Presentation. JJ Express has evolved into a Humanities Senior Independent Project that Jenny Chen is completing for her Senior Year. She his written an 11-page research paper on how picture books build a foundation for reading in emergent readers and how they can/should be used for sophisticated readers. Jenny Chen is currently a senior at Thomas S. Wootton High School, and Jack Chen is a freshman.Download Detailed JJExpress Project Description
